Why did the chicken cross the road?
Plato:
For the greater good.
Darwin:
It was the logical next step after coming down from the trees.

Probably the most random post yet. But I was telling my house mate about long exposures with water. What better way to demonstrate than to play with Lego and some over-elaborate waterfall system over the kitchen sink?

Turns out it's abstract weekend. Some more abstract images; but this time they're portraits.

A small collection of abstract, long exposure photos from a handheld camera in a moving car.
These 6 photos were taken in 2010 in Shrewsbury and I've never really looked at them as a set before today.

For some reason, this country goes mental when there's a little bit of snow.
I'm hoping it snows some more so I can go and get some more photos. There's some photos I really want to create when the snow's falling, I just need a girl in a emerald green coat. In the meantime, I had a walk down Nottingham canal last night and captured this street-photography style photo of a bike on a canal boat.
This photo is actually a composite of 5 exposures for a subtle...

Can you put a value on how much good or poor customer service means to you? I'm certain that there's a direct correlation between the amount of poor customer service you put up with and the necessity of the product or service that you're purchasing.

I tried my hand at some product photography a little while ago so that I had something to show someone that had asked me for a quote.
The bottom image is the first attempt which was nice, clean and sharp but whilst editing it I felt it was just a bit boring. So, I burnt some paper in a little glass pot and put them in front of the bottle to create a bit of atmosphere. I turned down the rear light to show a bit more contrast in the marble and got a spray bottle out for a bit more interest on the glass. I really like how the water altered the light....

Another year, a new Raleigh Park committee and another winter ball.
This year was at the same venue of last year's Winter Formal, East Midland's Conference centre.
Bit of a nightmare when the fuse went on one of my studio flashes before I'd even used them. But on the bright site I still had one of them working!
Quite happy with the photos from this one. Rented a Canon 24 - 105mm lens for the...

Virtual Fesitvals (who sent me to Wakestock Festival) have used two of my photos in a pull-out festival census for LIVEUK Magazine.
This will be the first time I've had photos published somewhere other than Nottingham University's Impact Magazine. Really pleased that these two photos were used as they are definitely in my top selection from the...

Utilizing OAuth from twitter, my Content Management System now automatically tweets newly posted items from here. This also gets picked up by Facebook from there. I've also finally created a Facebook Page for the site.
This is all part of me actually pushing to raise the hits that the site is getting. Seems to be working too....

Another post that's from some time ago for Impact Magazine
Louise was amazing on the day; the morning was bitterly cold and we decided to take the first shot outside, then she got shoved into an uncomfortable(but stunning) dress and asked to stand on a window ledge above stairs. Despite this, she didn't grumble once.
I'm really happy with nearly all of the photos taken on the day, thanks to Louise for being a great model and also Jasmin and Charlotte for being the brains behind the whole...

A nice quiet evening taking some photos of Mylo Buckingham.
Babies are definitely much happier just lying on their back for photos; I think I need to experiment with propping them up in the future.
After the photos of Charlie and spencer I thought the flashes may be an issue and with a lack of natural light I thought I may be running into some issues. But Mylo loved the flash and was fascinated by the camera.
Thanks to Shane and Sophie for the pizza and the beer while I was...

First wedding for me and it was fairly daunting leading up to it but it turned out to be a great day. Both in terms of me being there as a photographer and a part of the family. A huge thanks to Andy, Michelle and the rest of the family for making a part of the celebrations.
Turned out to be quite a challenge in terms of photography - especially lighting - but all in all pretty happy with the final results and have a strong selection of photos Im happy with. But then again, I know that Im my biggest...

Bit of a spooky photoshoot with Alison Patrick for Halloween.
All 3 images are composites of several long exposures. I did have some other images in my head but a bit of a failure with my flash stopped me from getting those. Maybe next...

The majority of the photos in this post are from playing around with my new studio lights when I got them just before the summer. I just about managed to steal a bit of Charlotte's time before she ran off to Texas for the year.
This shoot, and shoots from the past with Charlotte all tend to be planned very last minute or completely off-the-cuff. Despite lack of planning or any particular type of shot in mind they're good fun as I also spend a lot of the time showing off new music that I've found since Charlotte last had a gap in her usually hugely packed schedule.
The final...

Stefan is my standard "Test model".
He was a bit neglected lately though so I thought we would use a new, sample Fred Perry shirt as an excuse to have a play around with a 3-light setup.
Yet another shoot with nice lighting rather than creative lighting so I'm aiming for my next shoot to be something on-location and planned out.

Now this one is an old collection from when we shot 3 images for the the March issue of the magazine.
I was so rushed at the time I never really looked through the images and selected ones that I was happy with, other that the final 3 that were selected by Jasmin and Charlotte.
This shoot was a collaboration between myself and Tara Wallace, with Helen Miller helping out as a lighting...

Susy was my first model when I got my first off-camera flash just over a year ago. This is shoot number 2 between us and I couldn't be happier with the results! I think I've definitely developed a huge amount as a photographer over the last year and Susy seemed a lot more comfortable infront of camera than I remember. Both of these things show through in the photos.
All the pictures are minimally edited - just the usual skin clean up and colour curves.

This is the first time in too long where I have taken portraits in purely natural light. Just a big window and an A1 foamcore board as a reflector.
The twins were brilliant when they were on their backs; plenty of smiles and laughs and giving plenty of great natural-light pictures. This all went down hill as soon as they were picked up and moved to another room. I was really looking forward to some studio-lit photos but it turns out they weren't.
Going to try it again in a few weeks time, but rather than them travelling a couple of hours for it, I'll make the trip and they should be a bit more...
